The 5th Annual Port Street Turkey Trot
Run. Walk. Gobble. Give. Join your Harbor View Homes neighbors for a cherished Thanksgiving morning tradition that brings our community together before the big feast!
Event Schedule & Details
Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 27, 2025! The Port Street Turkey Trot kicks off bright and early on Thanksgiving morning, giving families a fun way to burn some calories before the big meal. Whether you're a seasoned runner or prefer a leisurely walk with the stroller, everyone is welcome to participate in this free, family-friendly neighborhood gathering.
The morning begins with our beloved Kids Fun-Run, a one-kilometer route designed especially for our youngest participants. Children of all ages are encouraged to join—whether they're running on their own two feet, being pushed in strollers, or holding hands with parents and grandparents. At 8:30 AM sharp, we'll gather together for the singing of the National Anthem, a moment that reminds us of the gratitude and community spirit that Thanksgiving represents.
The main 5K run/walk kicks off at 8:40 AM, taking participants on a beautiful loop through the Port Streets neighborhood. This isn't a timed race with competition in mind—it's about moving together, chatting with neighbors you haven't seen in a while, and soaking in the crisp autumn morning air. Out-of-town guests visiting for the holiday are especially welcome to experience what makes Harbor View Homes such a special place to call home.

Important: This is a free, informal neighborhood fun-run with no official registration required. Simply show up on Thanksgiving morning ready to have fun! There are no road closures, timing chips, or race infrastructure. Participants run or walk at their own risk and must obey all traffic laws.
A Neighborhood Tradition Born from Community Spirit
The Port Street Turkey Trot has a special origin story that perfectly captures the resilient, community-focused spirit of Harbor View Homes. In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of traditional Thanksgiving races across the country, local resident Chase Rigby refused to let the holiday pass without celebrating the joy of running together.
Chase mapped out a route through our neighborhood streets and invited neighbors to join him for an informal fun-run on Thanksgiving morning. What started as a small gathering of families who wanted to maintain their race-day tradition has blossomed into an annual event that now welcomes hundreds of participants each year.
Harbor View Homes—affectionately known as the Port Streets—is the perfect setting for this kind of grassroots community event. Our neighborhood is characterized by its nautically themed street names, family-oriented atmosphere, and genuine sense of togetherness. It's the kind of place where kids play outside until dusk, neighbors pop into each other's houses without needing an invitation, and everyone knows each other by name.
The neighborhood's design naturally encourages outdoor activity and community connection. A central greenway with walking paths winds through the area, connecting residents to nearby Bonita Canyon Sports Park and Harbor View Nature Park. You'll always see kids riding bikes, families walking dogs, and impromptu basketball games in driveways. This open-door culture and love of outdoor life make the Turkey Trot feel like a natural extension of our everyday neighborhood spirit.

What makes the Port Street Turkey Trot so special is precisely what makes it not an official race. There are no entry fees, no timing chips, no finisher medals, and no competitive atmosphere. Instead, you'll find parents pushing double strollers, teenagers running alongside grandparents, friendly dogs on leashes, and neighbors catching up while they walk. It's inclusive, relaxed, and genuinely fun—a celebration of movement and community rather than personal records or podium places.
The Turkey Trot embodies everything wonderful about Harbor View Homes: the welcoming spirit, the emphasis on family and fitness, and the understanding that sometimes the best events are the ones organized by neighbors, for neighbors. It's become a tradition that visiting relatives look forward to experiencing and a memory that local families treasure year after year.
